Sisters retouch a small canvas painting using fine brushes, in a conservation studio setting.

who we are

Alex and Becky Chipkin are identical twin paintings conservators who began their careers painting portraits together before turning their shared interest in fine art toward its preservation. They trained at The Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Alex is based in New York, USA and Becky is based in The Hague, Netherlands.

Alex and Becky treat paintings on canvas and panel, as well as polychrome wooden objects, from Old Masters to Modern and Contemporary. They undertake cleaning, consolidation and retouching, and have particular expertise in structural conservation, addressing issues like splits and disjoins in wooden supports, and tears and losses in canvas. They carry out condition assessments, as well as historical and technical research as needed, providing individualized care for both private and institutional collections.
