Alex Chipkin

New York City Studio

Alex Chipkin is a private paintings conservator based in New York City. She received her Postgraduate Diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings from The Courtauld Institute of Art in London. She has worked in private conservation studios and museum laboratories in Europe and the United States, including at the Harvard Art Museums, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Museo del Prado, and Stefano Scarpelli studio in Florence.

Her practice, which incorporates techniques from various countries, and her interdisciplinary training give her a nuanced understanding of artworks and guides her in implementing appropriate treatment strategies

Alex’s expertise lies in Old Master paintings, with a concentration in the structural conservation of paintings on panel. She has a particular interest in fine woodworking, including carving and marquetry. She is highly skilled in retouching, with knowledge of specialized methods such as tratteggio.
